Miss Liberty Gallery Two
First bath at home Lib, far right with foster mother - a stray whose own pups had just been weaned. All we knew was the real mom was a cock-a-poo, hit by a car. Pups were dumped at three weeks, "Too much trouble." We'd already lost two of six trying to feed them by hand, and still lost one more. Aside from being the only dark one, Lib distinguished herself by escaping whatever extra barricade we tried on the wide bars (foster mom didn't fit in the small crate). Lib would pop into the office or lobby to bite a few ankles, we'd put her back, she'd be back ... or she'd wander around visiting in the regular runs. Truly a wonder she didn't become some big dog's snack or fall down a drain hole. Several months earlier I'd brought home the sweetest dog I'd ever met, Heidi, a dachshund who was a horrible neglect case. Ted was starting to slow down a bit - I'd seen a new dog rejuvenate many an oldster. He fell in love immediately, never left her side. Unfortunately, Heidi only had a few good months to enjoy living inside. She started losing weight, tests showed nothing. Then she just flat dropped dead. All I could think of to ease the pain of that loss was a powerful distraction, namely, the teeny Houdini. Ted had no idea what to make of this thing Better follow it everywhere And show it who's boss

That's pool table chalk on a string This was Ted's basket
Out from under covers, hanging off side of waterbed Now who's the boss?
Dock at high tide - once, during an unusually low tide, she jumped in and started walking toward the Gulf - had to haul her out with a net.
The Easter
Beaster
The same run, sorry so blurred - actually most appropriate, quite often seemed like three going all at one time. Duck hat which she hated and picked the middle of modeling runway walk to try scraping off. Worse, her prize for best tail wagger was another dang hat. Beaded neckerchief was her own, quite stylish.
Furry muse, as dubbed by reporter who took pic for a biz spotlight article. Neither of us really awake here - her expression is priceless, "Whatever the stupid human's doing - it's OK with me." Miss Muddy

That's a Mickey Mouse logo, kid size 6-9 months Below is not Lib, and I have no idea who the baby is. Love the pic because that's one kid who'll never be afraid of dogs. While Stephen King's Cujo scared everyone else, all I could see was my St. Bernard "brother." Pics of Casey and Miss Jennifer Jones, Great Dane here: http://www.therealmartha.com/WARjingo/index.htm (about 1/4 down the page - making a point about imagined fears) I can't stand it when parents pull a kid away because they're scared. Lib did have a huge grin, some idiots thought she was snarling. We used to "stalk" and wait til adult backs were turned - at least the kid could grab a handful of Lib. Irresistible kid magnet, loved to knock 'em down for a thorough face wash too. Ordinarily we charged a buck for that privilege - raised a bunch of money for spay/neuter. http://therealmartha.home.mindspring.com/liblpn/default.htm - Licensed Practical Noogiest; includes what we did when certain bureaucratic mental deficients attempted to cancel one kissing booth engagement. Side story: Had a boss who was
petrified of dogs, even puppies. Hence, Lib got away with just about anything in her
column as long as leash law was mentioned from time to time. Really funny, I insisted we
have a float in a big parade - and Lib would have to be on the float. Ended up sitting
between boss and me. Boss could not believe how sweet and well-behaved Lib was. Better,
all along the route, "We love the dog!" Raised the ad price to be on her page
after that.
Another great pup and baby pic ~ http://www.therealmartha.com/ChowBaby/index.htm It was just one pic, now it's a crusade proving "new baby" is never a reason to dump an animal. In fact, the only time I ever heard a legitimate reason for a give up was a very frail Granny moving into her son's house where the dog was huge and extremely boisterous. He'd already knocked her down several times. The son was obviously upset but had no choice. Fortunately, the dog was young, neutered, current on vaccinations, heartworm free and had copies of all vet records. In other words, highly adoptable to the right home. Get
