Disclaimer, such as it is: You have received this because I consider you a friend or we have communicated on another subject.

(You may know me as TheRealMartha.com, or from Feeder's Digest Index of Recipes, Bright Spots, Dog's Eye View, hosted by Miss Liberty, ME (Mutt Extraordinaire), Toot - Toot from Buster the Boston, Granny Greetings, Skewed Views, Classy-fieds, Links I like and more, and/or SelectiveSingles.)

No skin off my nose if you don't want the next send. Hit reply, type unsubscribe in the subject line. If forwarding in part or whole, please include e-mail links above - thanks, your support is most appreciated. If you received as a forward and don't want, tell the sender - obviously I have no control there.

I am not particularly interested in going after a big subscription base. Huge lists are a pain, and aol is flag-happy these days. I would prefer to use "agents" to forward to their own lists. I'll be happy to add any name if that's a better individual option, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

I lost all the names I had stashed under SendNewPage@aol.com
when I had to reinstall aol. I am still using that name and now know how to save if that has to happen again - I think. In any case, I would prefer you notify me again rather than lose you, whichever page you want. Next Brights Spots for series is a priority after I tend to the new pages related to WA and this mailing. This mail will cease as soon as pages start. After that, unless notification is specifically requested, links will lead to  additions. I may transfer all names to SendNewPage name. Go ahead and mail a blank E with WA in the subject line now if you like. New requests will be easier to spot there. Thanks again to all who have forwarded, that's the only way the people you originally sent know about this.

Had a few bugaboos on last send. Will be keeping graphics to a minimum to speed up sends and opening time. The one that says it best for me showed up blurry on at least two group sends - here it is again.

(Unless this is the first page you happened across, you've seen the eagle - no need to run it here.)

If you can't see, it's the eagle, sharpening his talons. As soon as I have the latest publishing bugaboo (of course, why not, what next) worked out, all sends will be available as archives, complete with graphics. There will also be a special page for some of the more graphic graphics, such as Lady Liberty's torch replaced with a certain internationally recognized hand gesture. Love that proposal for new towers design too - picture two on each side of one tall. Beth, who you will read more about below, suggested the eagle, prize towel on board. Anyone up to it?

From a reader, "For some reason my tears won't flow."

I haven't cried yet. Mad usualIy works best for me. The huge weight on all of us is too many emotions to deal with at once. When they sort themselves, then we'll react. There are no classic ways to cope, this is a brand new book, chapter after chapter filled with pain. The enormity of each possible ramification is incomprehensible. In the meantime, I accept the overall unreal feeling and go on ... doing what I have to do as normally as possible. Work on this mailing is helping, definitely. I've already had positive reaction from quite a few people, especially those who grabbed an idea that I've passed along. Please do let me know what's on your mind - that's what this effort is all about.

I am proud to say due to caution preventing running the one editorial I promised yesterday until it was fully documented (backed up), it will soon be posted on Toogood Reports News & Politics. They accept only previously unpublished material. Right on! Pays to be a pain. I was protecting my credibility, as I will continue to do. Look for Arab and Muslim Spin Doctors Frantically Working Overtime By Beth Goodtree. I
met Beth online a few months ago.

It wasn't that I didn't trust her, as you can tell by the title, it's controversial. Quite a shock, going against most of what we thought we knew. It was all new to me. Basically I know zip about any previous goings-on. Beth, and several others are helping to educate me, also with editing decisions. I am not against controversy or a good argument on any subject, but I'm not about to throw anything out there without validation. Beth's personal account, from five miles away, watching the second plane hit and more is also posted on
BBC News | TALKING POINT | More eyewitness accounts of the attack on the US, slightly less than half way down the page.

On that same subject, "The problem with the world is the delete button! In ancient times - 1980, for instance - changing one word was a big ordeal. White-out ... correctable typewriter ribbon ... horrible ink erasers. Moving a paragraph meant rewriting the whole thing. People had to think before writing. They even called it 'committing words to paper.' Now starting over is nothing. People write anything that pops into their heads because they can rewrite it instantly ... people think they can re-speak instantly ... ." There's more to the rant, bottom line - no commitment, no trust, no stability. Now guess who said that - Cathy's mother, as in Cathy Guisewite of cartoon fame. The "real" ending was "no commitment, no stability, no marriage, no grandchildren - everyone's staring at you Mom - I need a delete button." Cute, as intended - amazing where true wisdom (the first part) can be found.

Natural human healing comes on the other side of the crying. Right now the pain looks external, we point the finger and put up a wall for protect. The pain is still inside the wall with you, in you. When you get quiet and look inside instead of outside, you'll see the pain and allow it be there. It will eventually ease and finally go. Fighting pain only makes it bigger. Crying is not fighting the pain, it's allowing the pain to come and go - you need for it to leave. No where in the Bible does it say "It came to stay," the correct line is, "It came to pass." Mike V.

That's exactly what I meant when I said I have no tolerance for crybabies. Have the cry you feel you need if and when you can, then go on. The following response/message pages may also be helpful. I have not checked any of them yet - would appreciate any reviews, comments. Let me know if you want me to use your name.

"People often say that this or that person has not yet found himself. But the self is not something one finds, it is something one creates."- Thomas Szasz, The Second Sin

*****

Often, it is through
the most difficult days of our lives
that we come to know ourselves
and what is truly important to us.
No matter how sad you may feel at times,
be confident that hope will
awaken with you tomorrow.

Faith and courage reach out to you;
take hold of them, and you will find
that you will be able to smile again
and truly be happy once more.

How we deal with life
is really a matter of personal choice,
so choose to be happy.
Find joy in the simplest things,
and see beauty in each person you meet.
When times are difficult,
remind yourself that no pain
comes to you without a purpose.

Are you a grief victim or grief survivor?

Being a victim is a state of mind-dictated by others.
A survivor dictates their own state of mind.

A victim - fears the moments of grief.
A survivor - welcomes those moments.

A victim knows about feeling down and tries to stay up.
A survivor knows feeling down is okay.

A victim tries hard to hide the tears.
A survivor never leaves home without Kleenex.

A victim struggles to maintain a state of normalcy.
A survivor knows normal has changed.

A victim gets caught in isolation.
A survivor reaches out when they need to.

A victim is afraid they in time will forget.
A survivor knows they never will.

A victim sometimes feels guilt laughing.
A survivor laughs through tears.

A victim tries at times to block our the memories.
A survivor embraces memories of all kinds.

A victim wants someone to cure their grief.
A survivor just wants someone to share their journey.

A victim struggles to get over their grief.
A survivor fights to get through it.

A victim tries to get on with their life.
A survivor lives their life knowing nothing will ever be the same.
(But that's Okay)

A victim says oh I'm okay - then secretly cries.
A survivor openly cries - and says I'm okay.

Lighten up here for a sec ... I was tempted to take out/rearrange* some of the cry lines. However, for several months weepy spells have been sneaking up, driving me batty along with the cerebral rot that's well under way at "this time of life." On top of the current stress, it's getting to the point where the bathroom is the only room I really know for which purpose I arrived! I am not kidding. If I'm talking to myself, Mike now knows not to interrupt. Pulled a doozy in the kitchen this morning, whatever it was though, I do not now recall. I was about to tell him it'd be just a few more minutes on dinner - oven had been on about long enough - baking dish still in the fridge when I decided to check. Neither occurrence was any big surprise, but I do try to limit the major blunders to one a day. In fact, you may find a whole new form of relief if you'd like to check my easy cooking pages (links above). I include warnings covering the most common mistakes, based on a vast store of experience.

*I love words, yours and mine. I mess with the English language whenever I can, although never altering anyone's style. Mores times than not, the less said, the gooder :)

The following was included in a forward, without credit. If it's yours, I'll be happy to run again with name if you wish.

I have compassion in my heart for all those who were ruthlessly murdered and their families left behind.
I have rage in my heart for those who committed this outrageous act.
I have faith in my heart that we, as a nation of brothers and sisters, will fight this together.

Mike called me in Sunday night to watch a "town meeting" program in the middle of working on this. The moderator asked who would willing to give up their civil liberties, such as e-mail monitoring by the government, or subjection to car searches. In a heart beat, yes I would, no question. I avoid driving as much as possible, I'm white (not a likely profile prospect) and I'm not a subversive - none of the possibilities would be any big sacrifice, maybe a little inconvenient. They can search whatever they want and if I see anything suspicious I'll report. Cooperation and support is absolutely essential to all our freedoms. I would say the only ones who have to worry and most certainly will be bitching would be those who had something to hide.

I ran just the e-mail link for Adopt a Soldier Saturday. This link will take you to the new site,
Adopt A Soldier
http://members.tripod.com/adoptsoldier

From Sarah, founder,

Now that I am starting to get soldier information and matching people up, I thought this might be a good time to discuss care packages. Please be advised that if you send a care package it is very likely it will be searched, this is the military. Some ideas for care packages are:

Home baked goodies!! (I remember sending goodies to my uncles, and the guys all fighting over them!! they like their sweets!)
Stationery, notebooks, notepaper, envelopes, pens (this encourages them to write)
Packets of hot cocoa or instant coffee (it gets very cold at night in the desert)
Local newspapers (it is very hard to get stateside news especially when deployed)
Pictures (if you are comfortable with this, let them know what you and your family look like)
Decks of cards (they gotta have something to do on guard duty hehehehe)
Hand warmers (you can get these at camping supply stores - crushing activates and they stay warm for hours!)

I am sure we could all think of plenty of things. If you have some ideas and would like to share, please let me know.

Find updated list: http://www.therealmartha.com/WAmixed/index.htm - lots more great ideas, including a recipe for what I call Sin-in-a-Pan. You need to suggest picking a good secret stash place, otherwise, you'll be on the hook for these forever if the whole gang gets into them - I am not kidding. There are similar recipes all over, this is a family hand-me-down. I still have not come across the exact set of ingredients anywhere else.

Also, I've decided to try to get a group effort going specifically for K9 teams to include military, police and civilian volunteers. Please use LibbyK9@aol.com to request info.

Friends working as support, after spotting it here, one sent the link to another friend's new link page. http://www.myjungle.com/americantragedy/
Please do the same with your friends - I would also suggest adding a comment.

Also, I know everyone who is working on projects like this, large or small, will appreciate a specific subject line. I have received, at least, 10 copies of the same articles and graphics, almost all with different subject lines. It will save us all a lot of time. If you happen to check to see if your mail has been read and you find it deleted, don't take it personally. It may mean you did your job well. Be careful not to flood everybody and be picky about what you send. Editors get to know the type of thing you send and tend to trust your judgment, which also applies in the reverse to cause a deletion. I am trying to let people know when I am going to use a submission. If you don't hear from me, I probably didn't receive (have lost mail if freeze-up happens during opening), or it was a duplication. Submit again if you don't see in a few days. Right now this is already way too long, and there's plenty more waiting to sort.

Terrorists,
You have heard this from our leaders now hear it from the American people.

You haven't destroyed us, you know. You will never destroy us. There is a unity, a strength and a spirit that you will never understand. We are angry, we are preparing retaliation and you will feel the full impact of our devotion to our fellow Americans. Be fearful, allow the reality of your fate to permeate your being. You made a grave mistake when you decided to come up against the United States of America, a mistake that will bring you down to the very depths of hell itself. Hide yourself behind rocks and in caves for you are nothing more than vipers. Vipers who will be smoked out and annihilated.

No, you have not destroyed us. We weep as individuals and as a nation but we survive. We heal. We take care of our people. We will destroy you and all who harbor you. You have sent us a message. You will be receiving ours soon. The faces of our brothers and sisters murdered by you are etched in our hearts. Etched in the hearts of our military leaders, etched in the hearts of our military men and women as they are readied to deliver our response to your message. Make no mistake, you will weep but humanity will turn their faces from your suffering.

Understand this: We are the United States of America indivisible, fueled by justice and we are coming for you.
Opattiann, Syracuse, New York

Warning, from Shirley: Earlier today I received an e-mail cautioning me that there are some scumbags taking advantage of the insane act of last Tuesday on the US. Apparently there are several sites on the Internet advertising people to send money to them which they will forward to the Red Cross etc. Corporate names can sound impressive and are frequently scams. If you become aware of any such sites PLEASE report them to the FBI or your local law enforcement authority IMMEDIATELY. Possibly the quickest will be to go to the FBI's site at http://www.fbi.gov/ Thank you all and just be careful out there.

GOD IS IN CONTROL........let's put this in HIS HANDS!!!!!!
Yep, but, let's use whatever resources God gave us to use, including the intelligence with which to activate those resources. We have 'people,' who can, will and do help each other in any crises. We can pray all we want, and should, but let's get busy and do whatever it takes to get each other through this. There isn't one person who can't do something. Whatever that may be. Helen

This is from a friend by request. He is one of the most straightforward people I know for any opinion. I may not agree with everything he says. As always, I do appreciate people who are not afraid to speak their minds.

We, the people of this great country, have no one to blame
* for this attack except ourselves. Eight years of an administration that had no respect for men in uniform, or the duties they had to perform, has come home to roost. When your next (we all know what activity* is meant here) is your primary concern, the strength of the nation's defenses get second fiddle.

The only superpower in the world is looked at us as having no back bone and wimps for leaders. No will to protect and defend our people or our interests. In short, NO BALLS!!

Whatever it takes to reverse the notion that America can be attacked with impunity must be our leaders' primary concern in the days to come. We are still the world's best and brightest hope for freedom. If we go, so goes the Western world. Hawk

*About that edit, I do not recall what PC euphemism was used during the weeks and months of coverage and lies - all sickening.

*It was tempting to edit the blame line out as I was updating this page. Blame and rehash have become increasingly maddening - you'll get to a few specific personal rants later. I believe blame was the first reaction most people felt. Have to admit, I did too. I never will forgive billybubba. He lied, was never sorry about any of the whole mess, just sorry he got caught. In any case, it's history. Anyone still stuck in whine mode best get a clue it's time to move on and use that energy toward a positive effort.

These two links from Jill, the American friend in Canada who went the rounds with her daughter's school to have an article read to her class. "I have a friend" - from a Canadian

I have a friend. He's kind of a big guy, but with a real gentle personality. Oh, I have seen him get in the odd fight, but usually only if someone provokes him. Usually he is the type of friend that we all strive to make. He is helpful without being asked. Despite his size, he doesn't throw his weight around needlessly.

My friend got beat up today. I guess beat up isn't the right word. He got cold cocked by a little guy who hit him when he wasn't looking. This is not the first time. Some years ago another guy up and kicked him in the groin.

That guy paid a terrible price for his action, but once that was done, my friend returned to being the nice guy he really is. He even helped the guy that kicked him. Now, the guy that hit him today wasn't as brave as the one that kicked him. This guy sneaked up and punched him right in the face when his head was turned. He didn't have the guts to stand face to face. He was
not the honorable opponent that his predecessor was. The guy that hit him today was a coward, who will indeed pay a price when my buddy finds him. I don't think this loser realized what he was getting himself in for.

My friend has a black eye today, quite a shiner actually, and a great deal of pain. What the coward that hit him didn't realize was that any amount of pain simply serves to make my friend stronger. His resolve is without equal, and his friends have gathered around him.

My friend will be OK in a day or two, but I have looked into his eyes and I know he will never be the same. He even looks at me suspiciously now. While I am not responsible for what happened to him, he looks at me like I should have done something. I know that he doesn't really hold me responsible, but the trust will never be as complete between us as it has been until now.

Please, If you see my friend have a good word, and if he makes a mistake ? be tolerant, because you know that if you need help he will be there.

My name is Canada, my friend's name is America.

This was sent to Martha, editor, Hillbilly Corn - this is an extended thank you (from that Martha for this Martha's readers who sent cards too)

Jordan is no longer a little boy spending his birthday in sadness. This child has read well over 150 birthday e-mails this morning ... and has taken a break to go back to approximately 45 more later on. Martha, your online family has changed my little boy forever. He is all smiles today! We read the wonderful messages of hope and prayer, laughed at all the funny cards, and I kept saying to him that this is how people really are ... not the bad people who did that horrendous act, they are not the majority!

One last quickie, almost forgot something - Buster to the rescue. He had on his best really-I'm-starving face while I was making tea which happens to be in the general vicinity of his biscuits. "Just a minute Sweetie," took him out, and there it was again. I have been on the butt side of more dogs than I could ever count (try up to 70 a day, in and out twice). (You wanta lose weight? There's your tip for the day.) The point here being, the Boston terrier is known as The American Gentleman, the only pure American breed. They must know it too, there is not a jauntier, snappier, struttin'-their-stuff gait going. He's wearing his black ribbon (up on leash, he's black) in recognition of K9 Search and Rescue teams (more about SAR next send). The red, white and blue will show on his collar, he'll wear that proudly too.

I am imagining multi-thousands of displaced animals in the weeks ahead ... this is the time to plan to take care of one you already know in the family or for a friend. You can also put your name in for a preference at shelters or with breed-specific rescue groups. Doesn't have to be a Boston, but you have no idea what you're missing! Don't forget about volunteering at a shelter too. Find more info and links on Buster's page link at top of page.

"Once a man has tasted freedom he will never be content to be a slave. That is why I believe that this frightfulness we see everywhere today is only temporary. Tomorrow will be better for as long as America keeps alive the ideals of freedom and a better life. The wisdom stands, although we all know Disney is dead. How's this for a surprise?

America: The Good Neighbor
Netlore Archive
Description:  Email rumor
Status:  Mostly authentic
Circulating since:  1999

Comments: Aside from the fact that this text was written 28 years ago and has suffered minor revisions during its travels in cyberspace, it is authentic. Journalist and radio personality Gordon Sinclair delivered the commentary on his Toronto show in 1973, when anti-American sentiment was at an all-time high. For obvious reasons, Americans ate it up. The piece has circulated on the Internet — sometimes attributed to Sinclair and sometimes not (but always to "a Canadian") — for several years. Its suddenly renewed popularity in September 2001 can be attributed to the recent terrorist attacks on US soil. Americans, smarting from the implicit hatred behind these acts, have found solace in sincere words of appreciation from a geographical neighbor. Those words were not, however, authored "recently," as most currently circulating versions claim. http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/blamericans.htm

This is "my" third war, enough is enough. I cannot begin to imagine what the veterans of World War I and II or anyone else who lived through them might be thinking.

For all who are running material from here, or circulating in any way, this one's for you ...

Copy (2) of unsung hero frog.jpg (8527 bytes)

I requested the design maybe as long as a year ago. It's posted on Classy-fieds, Links I like and more. The idea was recognition of the everyday over-and-aboves most people never hear about. Who knew what was on the way ... kinda cool coincidence now, UnSung US Hero. Most of my promo exchange participants were already listed on the Classy-fieds page, find subscribe and other details there. Hero links, and why will be listed in the hero spot too. Considering the cooperation I'm getting, may need to establish a separate page to list winners :). Reminder: don't be shy about swipin' my stuff, it's open trading season. Will also be adding other support links to that page.

Now accepting nominations for the "Unsung Hero" award. Who do you know who has gone over and above for friends, neighbors or their community? Groups that go the extra mile are also eligible. Send details to AltMartha@aol.com. Logos may be used on web pages or in e-mail - a certificate for display is also in the works. Winners will be featured in Bright Spots updates.

From a reader: Just heard on the news that the rescue dogs have so much excess dog food that's been sent, they're giving it away. It's just taking up room. They need $$ now. They have so much STUFF in NY they have no more room to store it. It's all laying around the streets. Food for people is in surplus too. Gotta love us Yanks. We stand so proud and so together when the chips are down. So touched by the rest of the world sending so much love and solidarity our way. I know how they feel about Americans NORMALLY. This just makes the rest of the civilized world realize what good people we really are.

Back to work ... see ya soon,

Martha
