Kitty Litter Cake
This is the recipe and model I used the first time for a kitty shower, what a hit and hoot it was! Feel free to make any of your own creative adjustments. Take a pic and send with details if you'd like to have your masterpiece featured here too. Find e-mail addy at the end of page. 1 spice or German chocolate cake mix 1 white cake mix 1 pkg. white sandwich cookies 1 large pkg. vanilla instant pudding mix green food coloring 12 small Tootsie Rolls 1 litter box, new of course 1 litter box liner, ditto 1 poop scoop, ditto Prepare cake mixes and bake according to directions (any size pans). Prepare pudding mix and chill until ready to assemble. Crumble white sandwich cookies in small batches in blender, they tend to stick, so scrape often. Set aside all but about 1/4 cup (also see less-mess tip below). To the 1/4 cup cookie crumbs, add a few drops green food coloring and mix using a fork or shake in a jar. When cakes are cooled to room temperature, crumble into a large bowl. Toss with half the remaining white cookie crumbs and the chilled pudding. You probably won't need all of the pudding, mix with the cake and "feel" it. You don't want it soggy, just moist; gently combine. Line litter box, dump (irresistible pun) in mixture. Nuke three unwrapped Tootsie Rolls (separate dish) until soft and pliable, just a few seconds. Shape ends so they are no longer blunt, curving slightly. Repeat with three more and bury in mixture. Sprinkle the other half of cookie crumbs over the top. Scatter the green cookie crumbs lightly over the top, this is supposed to look like chlorophyll. Heat remaining Tootsie Rolls, three at a time, in the microwave until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake and sprinkle with cookie crumbs. Or, only spread five of the remaining Tootsie Rolls over the top; heat one until pliable, hang it over the side. Place the box on a newspaper and sprinkle a few crumbs around. Serve with scoop. Tip: Instead of crumbling the cookies in a blender, put them in a plastic baggie and pound with a mallet. When the baggie gets too sticky, just replace with another one. A finishing touch from a friend, "Because of the pudding, I stored in the fridge overnight. That caused the Tootsie poopsie I had hung over the side to run just a little bit down into the litter box - perfect!"
Found this version on a www.Google.com search using the images option. Also found a lot of duplicates, several Halloween (great accessory for a cat costume) gross-out buffet table presentations and a couple that went a little too far, but hey, each to their own. "Omigod, yuck" and "No way am I eating that," are to be considered compliments. A no-mixes-for-me friend who is an accomplished baker all around has promised a diet version coming soon. She's been converting all sorts of ooey-gooeys to South Beach friendly for more than a year. One of these days I'll get around to posting them in their own section. I am no kinda baker, from scratch or otherwise, meaning I don't recall even one cake coming out even. However, since crumbling is correct for the end result here, anyone can pull off a pretty good act ~ pretty tasty too. I can honestly say I've never had more fun with any other recipe and I've done more than a few bring-somethings. The looks on everybody's faces were well worth the construction mess.
