Who's that grinning? Why it's Elmo of course ... camera hog!
Simon is showing off his shiner. Even the Simonator doesn't win every round in the boxing ring. He is proud of his version of the "Simonized Shine." Four out of the six are rescues ... failed foster attempts if you know what I mean :-) Karen Jensen Three are Karen's, three are her sister's. I had to do something with the six-pack pic and still have a bunch more to add. Next will be another page with more cuties (Westies and others) at play. More from Karen: Simon and Sparky are both rescues. Simon is the reason I am involved with WRM. After Jolly died, I sent an application to Westie rescue. In February 2004, Angie Jamison called to say that they had a match for me. Brenda Hunter was his foster mom. I think she kept him all of two or three days before passing him on to me. He came from a family in Keokuk, Iowa who had a young child, and Simon was apparently being a terror of a terrier in the home. Happily for me, they surrendered him to the local shelter, who in turn notified Brenda. Three days after the call from WRM we were on our way to get him. WRM has a good relay transport system, thanks to Lynell :-) She drove to meet Brenda and then brought Simon as far south as Rolla, Missouri where we rendezvoused at the McDonald's there. He wasn't very loving at first. Always doing his own thing his own way in his own time. Now he is very affectionate, even likes to be held and loved on a little bit. I didn't change his name because it fits him to a "T." In fact, we never change any rescue's name. I believe it gives them a sense of identity. One month later, Angie Jamison called me at work to ask me to take in a 7-month-old Westie rescue that was in my area. Left out in the back yard with no socialization among people. A coworker of the owners finally convinced them to surrender Sparky to WRM so he could have a shot at a full life. He was my first "failure" [attempt at fostering ... in other words, she couldn't let him go]. He is such a hoot (or should I say such a honker). He doesn't bark. He "honks"! And he does it LOUDLY!! Sparky is all about playing, 24/7, all day, every day. He will play with the others if he can get them to or he will play by himself if no one else is interested in a game. In his own mind's eye he must be the size of a malamute because he is forever stalking. He can be two feet from Annabelle but he insists on the stalk and pounce routine. He is very special to me because he was born the day after my Jolly passed from this life. I will write more about the others at a later time. Karen and gang will be highly visible - to say the least - when they arrive for the Furkid Funfair to be held Oct. 30 in St. Charles, MO: http://www.therealmartha.com/FurkidFunfair/index.htm and http://www.westie2rescuemo.com/index.html (one page might be updated before the other) Do not miss the Westie Wedding preview: http://www.therealmartha.com/DogWedding/index.htm Stay tuned! And send pics of your furkids having fun: MarthaJones1@aol.com - please use Critter Funnies as subject line. Due to security risks, unknowns will be deleted. If I don't get back to you in a day or two, try again. Several e-mails have fallen into a black hole recently. I'm perfectly capable of losing mail all by myself, evidently the helpful aol gremlins - refreshed from a brief vacation - are hard at work again. They particularly enjoy messing with zip files, so please send each pic separately. I prefer embedded, however showing up on this end is always a crap shoot. Not a bad idea to attach for download too. http://www.therealmartha.com/CritterIndex/index.htm http://www.therealmartha.com/Smile/index.htm Karen's info on Tulip, now Miss Emma Lee: "All I know about Tulip is that
she was taken to a high kill shelter in a small rural town, Lavaca, Arkansas. She was
scheduled to be euthanized but one of the shelter volunteers wisked her away and gave her
to the Charleston Animal Shelter which is about 45 minutes from the other one. She
was being fostered by a volunteer of that shelter for about a month but had to be returned
because she was scuffling with one of the other dogs. All I did was take her to my
work and vaccinate her (I work in a veterinarian office), bathe and deflea, then take her
to the next leg of her journey."
Daddy's Girl loves her little palace hideaway (heretofore Scoopy's just-in-case crate). Soon she'll have a proper doll house (her own condo in my office), with pink pillows, lacy coverlets and such. My bookshelves will just have to wait. This is still my fave so far ~ not one inch does she give da boyz when it comes to toyz. OK, twist my arm, one more ... Scoop has 20 pounds on her, Shugee at least 30 |
