Links I like and more ...
Like is used quite loosely here. This page exists so whenever faves disappear, which is frequently thanks to Aol's sterling service quality, I still have access to reference material - or whatever else I've found to be useful or entertaining. Rationale for inclusion varies, to say the least. Can't check 'em all every day - you're on your own as to what you may run into past main pages. Notification of dead links is appreciated, and I always welcome suggestions. Please use a clearly defined subject line: MarthaJones1@aol.com or TheRealMartha@mindspring.com
Due to 10 tons of junk arriving daily, and virus threats, when I don't recognize sender name and subject line is vague, I delete. Also, delivery reliability has gone beyond iffy lately - that's saying the best. Please try again if I don't answer in a day or two.

the like) or personal (keep 'em classy).
Personals of the "looking for" kind will be assigned a code number to protect
privacy, messages to be relayed through Third Party Relay, a little
side biz of mine. Check it out for a variety of private and business uses.

Oh cool, a new word for links ...
concatenation
\kon katt e nae shen\ (noun)
: the linking of things together or
the state of being interconnected
: the linking of characters, strings, or files in a specified order to form a
single entity equal to the sum of the lengths of the original entities
Synonyms:
* link
* chain
Example sentence: Forming a concatenation, the students stood side-by-side, holding hands
to see how far their "chain" would extend.
Word Wise: [17th century] A concatenation is literally a "chain" of events or
occurrences. It is a derivative of the seldom-encountered verb concatenate [16th century],
which comes from Latin concatenare "chain together, link," a compound verb
formed from the prefix com- "together" and catena "chain" (source of
English chain).

here so I won't lose them when aol decides to crash my faves. I am not responsible for any
content you may find offensive so don't bother whining about it. Your input/reviews are
welcome and I would appreciate a note if you happen to find a real stinker snuck in.

happy cruisin' to y'all!
Almost all of the sites listed offer free newsletters - I say why not give them a try, you can always unsubscribe. Quite a few sites also have unique greeting cards available. Make sure you always check link pages too, I'm adding the best (IMHO) as I go but it's time consuming so don't wait on me.
Newsletters I particularly like (where I get a lot of material through promo exchange) are highlighted in the Bright Spots and Catch All series.
On
with the show ...
I will have these
categorized shortly ... yeah right ;-) In the meantime, you can hit the Ctrl and F
key together to bring up a find box, then type in your search subject. Try it again if
nothing happens, can be cranky at times. Neat little trick to know for searching any page
- try it on my recipe Index pages
too.
The first listings here are first to help, hopefully, rid my life, and yours of ever-growing nuisance mail. It's worse than ever now. Go to any one or two, put in your faves and check before forwarding any more junk around. Then, shoot the info links back at sender. There will always be idiots who can only be happy when they're miserable - but that's never good enough, they do their best to spread the swill. Like the little boy who cried wolf, one of these days, possibly legitimate information from habitual rumor mongers will not be taken seriously. Laying on a guilt trip works quite well and you'll be doing everyone a favor.

Dig
Deep When You Search the Web
Condensed from Kim Komando Show Newsletter, subscribe: http://www.komando.com/media/newsletter
Looking for some nugget of information on the Internet? Easy. Just point your browser to
your favorite search site, type in a few words that describe what you're after and bingo -
up pop results on your screen. But are those the only results? Not likely.
One way to find elusive Internet content is to search the searchers - that is, use a
meta-search or multi-threaded engine. At a meta-search site, you can simultaneously scour
dozens of search engines, big and small, to serve up hard-to-find information.
Profusion (www.profusion.com) is one such site that
connects to more than 1,000 information sources all at once. Look up subjects by keyword,
or use one of more than 20 presorted topic searches, such as entertainment, business,
travel, science, career or living.
Other meta-search sites include Metacrawler (www.metacrawler.com),
Metor (www.metor.com), or the aptly-named Dogpile, www.dogpile.com. It's not a bad idea to hit all of them
if you can't find what you're looking for at one of the big-time search sites.
Though not precisely a meta-search site, Direct Search (http://gwis2.circ.gwu.edu/~gprice/direct.htm)
sniffs out data and offers links to information wherever it may reside. While this site is
thin on sizzle, it delivers a lot of content. A similar site with more style is the
University of California's Infomine (http://infomine.ucr.edu).
When you just can't seem to locate the right information, the next step is to find a
specialized search engine. The Search Engine Guide (www.searchengineguide.com) can help track down
the right place to look, and the Lycos searchable database (http://dir.lycos.com/Reference/Searchable_Databases)
digs deeply into more than 10,000 Web site databases in 18 basic categories. For perhaps
the last word on cataloging the catalogs, SearchAbility's A to Z guide (www.searchability.com/atoz.htm) offers a
listing of search engines that index specialty search engines! Yikes!
Clearly, it's easy to reach search engine overload and here's when you need to get back to
basics. Find a search engine devoted to only the information you seek.
Some specialized search engines in specific categories include SciSeek Science Online (www.sciseek.com) for all sorts of scientific
information, FindLaw (www.findlaw.com) where you can
access legal data, and FirstGov (www.firstgov.gov),
the US government's own site for accessing public resources.
If you want to find a person or an address, head over to AnyWho (www.anywho.com), WhoWhere (www.whowhere.com) or 411, (www.411.com).
For health information, 911.com (www.9-11.com) claims to
index more than 30 million biomedical and public safety resources.
For people in search of media files, there are specialty sites for you as well. Both
Google and AltaVista have introduced dedicated image locating services, respectively at www.google.com/advanced_search.html
and www.altavista.com/sites/search/simage.
For music files, try Audiogalaxy (www.audiogalaxy.com).
For images, video and audio files, Fast (http://multimedia.alltheweb.com)
is the place to go.
Sometimes the key to finding the right information isn't knowing where to search, but how
to search. Chances are, you can narrow your search at any search site by using basic
Boolean logic - "AND," "OR" and "NOT."
You might also want to search just one particular web site for information. Most Web sites
have a search feature but if the site doesn't, you're not out of luck. Simply use a search
site that allows you to comb through only one domain, such as the advanced search at
Hotbot (www.hotbot.com).
You can also try a domain-limited search at other search sites by using special commands.
The command "site:komando.com" (without the quotes) added to your search terms
will limit hits to content on the Kim Komando site. Type in "link:komando.com"
and you'll get results only from sites that link to www.komando.com,
and entering "url:komando" will return pages that only have the word komando in
their addresses. Take a moment and look at the instructions in the advanced section of
your favorite search site for details on these and other specific searches.
Knowledge isn't always how much you know. It's knowing where to find it. While mainstream
search sites will likely provide you with most of what you need, there are gigabytes of
information waiting for you in the invisible Web.
My own note: use the ctrl-F trick to find a specific name or subject on any page. Hit both keys at once - zoom, you're there. And, horror of horrors, should you ever misplace me ... a search on almost any general engine for AltMartha or TheRealMartha will spit out one or two of my pages - then follow links to index.
