Chewapalooza2
One of the newer hybrids, medium heavy tubing braided with a strip of belt-weight canvas webbing. Technically it's a UKO (unidentifiable knotted object). This one's pretty tame compared to other alien incarnations ~ find gallery link below. In-her-face knots of fun!
Miss Maya was just back from her spay and needed to take it easy for a few days.
Mom reports, "Timing was perfect. She’s a puppy and LOVES to play fetch. So I’m glad she’s happy to sit down and chew her knots instead of holding her toys in her mouth and looking at us woefully because she wants to play." Teething note: Those little needles can be hard on the rubber, on the other paw ... very soothing. Oh boy do Bub and I know those relentless pleas - Scoopy used to drive us nuts alllllll the time. Almost three years later, Chewas are still his favorite self-indulgence. No surprise, after all, he was responsible for the idea.
Now he has the Princess Emma Lee and Shugee for possession competition (more below, near end of page).
Hooray! (Hot out of the mail box) " ... they immediately went straight for the little blue jean braid, then spent the rest of the time playing with the yellow rubber. They love it! So far, they've not played much with the black one (several feet of tie-your-own), but I think that's because only Scout can fit it in her mouth easily. Since 4-month-old Adie fits the yellow one just fine, that's the one Scout wants. She will pull with Adie on the other end, and if Adie won't let go, Scout puts her foot on Adie's head for some leverage! Of course, then it snaps back at her, and they both just get a kick out of it." ~ Mica, who has promised to stay on the prowl for the perfect tug-of-war shot.
11-month-old Max went right to work. He's had plenty of OJT and is now considered a professional shredder. "A toy destroyed is a toy enjoyed." ~ Carolyn Swicegood, www.landofvos.com. While Carolyn was referring to her feathered critters, that line says it all for the furry set's need to gnaw. Nothing lasts forever, nonetheless it's amazing how many UKOs and Chewapaloozas are still relatively intact. They've even been declared macaw proof!

Buster, a.k.a. Sultan of Swat (we don't think The Babe would mind), dumped his wind-up mousie in the water bowl now that he has this new toy. ~ Steve
I have the yellow version now for my little Boston terrier (who loves it and has chewed it every day since Christmas with no sign of wear yet). I also have a rescue Staffordshire bull terrier who loves to chew Nylabones but he has had a problem with his canine teeth. Just had to have one broken one removed by the vet and came to us with another already broken. We would like him to have something to chew that he can enjoy without causing any further tooth damage. I will tell you that I have had dogs since I was 7 years old and I am now 65. This is the BEST chew toy ever!! Daisy (the Boston) and I usually have "quiet time" on the couch every morning while my husband and the Staffy take their walk and she never goes a morning without a good chew on it. In fact, she picks it over bully sticks and other chewy treats and never damaged anything in the house while going through puppy teething.
The new toy was a big hit. Pugsley was very excited by his early present and chewed it and flipped it in the air. Had a wonderful time of course Daisy thought it was for her (nothing new there) but Pugs quickly reclaimed it hahahahaha. Thank you so much for making such a great toy! ~ Valerie Daisy is featured on the Bostons Only page: http://www.therealmartha.com/BostonsToy Custom request and reply sample I would like advice on which toys would be good for two dogs, a Boston terrier and a pug. I was thinking one of the UKOs and one Chewapalooza, but am definitely open to suggestions.
My Boston terrier
(Bentley) loves ALL things, but his very favorite things to do are play tug
and fetch (he is a rope chewer and eats loose strings at the ends of rope if
given the chance, so yarn is a definite bad idea). I have no doubt that he
will enjoy anything I give him. He truly appreciates all toys he gets and
loves them until he kills them.
Our pug (Sirrus) loves toys, but hardly gets to play with them cause Bentley (the Boston) is
a toy thief. Sirrus prefers softer toys and also enjoys tug, but her
favorite game is "I have something I shouldn't, so the humans will chase me
to get it from me ..." One of her favorite toys is a tail from a toy that
died long ago, but the tail is too small for Bentley to grab from her, and
she treats it like it is something she shouldn't have.
Do you have any
recommendations? I would like to get them one toy each (which will likely
turn into two toys for Bentley as that is how it usually goes).
I'm not that familiar with pugs to know about jaw power, Bostons of course need the super tough stuff (black) which is $3 per foot. It is as indestructible as possible. The next sizes down are $2.75 (blue) and $2.50 (green). Takes at least four feet of the black to make a chew toy, that's with plain knots tied anywhichway. It's too thick to braid. Blue and green can be braided and both take at least eight feet. Based on your info, Bentley would probably be happiest with a combo fabric/rubber tubing version. I can do that with a braided fabric body (polyester double knit which can be chewed through but it doesn't shred) with a rubber tug loop. For Sirrus, a rubber body with fabric loop, or no loop. Basically, keeping in mind the tubing is the expensive part, it's easiest to tell me how much you had in mind to spend, and we go from there. Ask as many questions as needed. I tend to think
people can read my mind (~.*)
Pugs are not as extreme chewers as Bostons are, so if the toys will
stand up to Bentley, Sirrus will be fine. In games of tug, the pug
does often win, so she does have the power, just not as much of the
destructive drive the Boston does!
Your suggestions sound good. Like I said, Bentley will love absolutely
anything I give him, and Sirrus isn't that picky. She just doesn't get
to play as much cause Bentley is a big toy fiend! He loves them so much
he must have all of them.
I think both with tugs on them would be good, but if possible, the one
for Bentley should probably have a tug on both ends cause he likes to
cheat while playing tug and grab the handle each and every time (he
knows it makes it harder for you to win).
Bentley
got one knot out of the rubber within five minutes, but my friend retied it. When I got home from
work, he brought it to show off. My sister said he carried it
around for most of the night.
Sirrus much prefers hers to his toy. She did get a bit of playtime, though Bentley tried to steal it.

The
ferrets will hide their toy within two minutes and I will likely not see it again for
three months.
Most of the
pictures of the ferrets were overexposed. When I went back to take more
pictures, of course the toy is MIA. They have stashed it good
and I have no idea where it is anymore (did I mention that ferrets
are like pirates??? They like to loot and hide their bounty).
Bentley's favorite game is
still to untie the
knots and handles. I have retied them many times already.
You mean I won't get in trouble if I shred this thing? You go Honey girl! Back to the home team
Gets pretty hot and heavy around here.
Eventually it's each to their own corner and Scoopy keeps the big prize.
Gee Ma, he always wins.
Isn't that pitiful? Coupla con artists takin' 5 is more like it. Notice the home team's tubing isn't braided. Anywhich knots work, braiding just takes a little longer to work loose. Undone is the fun, gets the "snake" floppin' all around. Tie 'em back up for a brand new "kill."
Stay tuned, more pics on the way. Better yet, order your own toys and your critters could be famous too! http://www.therealmartha.com/cheworderform/index.htm ~ price guide but it's confusing even to me. Latest UKO gallery: http://www.therealmartha.com/UKOsDogToys/ Why the abundance of Boston pics on every toy page? I'm a complete sap for BTs and firmly believe another one of those incomparable sweeties will find us eventually. My Buster (not the kitty above) was old when he arrived, although still quite full of P & V. Having all those precious, happy faces on hand almost gives me Buster's puppyhood. However, critiques by world-renowned testing team BTs Bergamot and Emrys are really most responsible for the toys falling into the high percentage of other BT paws: http://www.boston-terrier-challenge.com/tests/chewapalooza.html and http://www.boston-terrier-challenge.com/tests/uko-dog-toy.html. Visit their main site, you will have fun: http://littlebeasts.com/ Each B & E referral sale benefits BT rescue, ask about signing up your organization. Several options are available for any kind of group, including project instruction and promotion material. A percentage going to animal welfare (preferably spay/neuter) is my only requirement.
